👩‍💻I’ll never forget my first job offer. 🤑

I was so excited that I said “yes” immediately.
Later, I found out a teammate in the same role was making almost 25% more simply because they asked. 🙌

That stung. But it also taught me one of the most important career lessons: negotiation isn’t greed, it’s growth.💯

📍Here’s what I’ve learned since then:

✅ Companies usually expect you to negotiate. The first number is rarely the ceiling.
✅ It is not just about base salary. Signing bonus, stock, benefits, title and growth opportunities all matter.
✅ The way you frame it matters. Saying “Based on the value I bring, I was expecting X” sounds collaborative, not confrontational.
✅ Silence is your friend. After you state your ask, pause and let the other person respond.
✅ Every starting offer compounds. If you are under-leveled in year one, you will be playing catch-up for years.

I used to feel guilty for negotiating. Now I see it as setting myself up for long-term growth.

The truth is, the hardest part is asking. Once you do, you may be surprised how often the answer is “yes.”
