Dezmond Chatman and Leona Rexhepi, members of Cohort 58, are helping win championships! These Dons work for the Golden State Warriors Youth Basketball Academy and both share a strong commitment to giving back to the community and helping young athletes develop. 

Dezmond has always been a talented basketball player, however poor coaching and lack of mentorship growing up discouraged him from following his dream of playing in college. After a regretful decision to walk away from the game he loved, Dez found coaching as a way to reconnect with basketball! He started working for the Warriors in 2020 and through his hard work, great knowledge of the game, and commitment to helping young players grow, he quickly ascended to Head Trainer of the Warriors Youth Basketball Academy. Dezmond’s career goals after coaching are to work in basketball operations for an NBA team, and one day bring a WNBA team to his hometown of Oakland, CA!

Leona began playing basketball when she was 11; shooting hoops with her cousins in the backyard. She quickly fell in love with the game but her simple days of playing in the backyard came to a sudden halt when her talents started attracting the attention of coaches. Leona played both collegiately and professionally overseas before making the decision to pursue coaching as a career. With the Warriors she runs several youth camps and shooting clinics for young players, alongside Warrior great, Klay Thompson, but ultimately she wants to be a NCAA Division 1 women’s basketball coach.
