What people don’t tell you about working in high finance during the holidays:

1. You’re always on call. Whether it’s a two minute fix or a two hour fire drill, you’re expected to be reachable. Market holidays included.

2. Your boss probably doesn’t want to be working either. Even in intense cultures, most people are human and would rather be offline and spending time with their families. Remembering that helps it sting less when you have to log on.

3. The time you do get to unplug matters. Catching up on sleep and actually enjoying time with family or friends can be a much needed reset. Those windows can be shorter than they seem.

Is the work life tradeoff worth it? Yes or no.
