Are you running too fast in HYROX

Here is the easiest way to know. Look at your run splits. If your first two runs are fast but your last three runs fall apart, you are starting too hot.

HYROX is not a five kilometer race. It is eight broken runs done under fatigue with stations spiking your heart rate every few minutes. If you go out too fast, your lactate rises faster than your body can clear it. Once you cross that point, you never get it back. Cardiac drift takes over, your heart rate keeps climbing, and every run feels heavier than the last.

The best athletes in HYROX do not run the fastest early splits. They run the most even splits. That is the key difference. Even pacing keeps you in control, keeps stations cleaner, and keeps your late race speed from collapsing.

If your last three runs are dramatically slower than your first runs, the problem is not fitness. It is pacing. The fix is simple. Slow down your opening pace by five to ten seconds per lap. Stay relaxed. Settle in. Build into the race instead of trying to win the first two runs.

You do not get bonus points for a fast start. You get results by holding pace to the finish.
