Today, we are crowning Emmy-nominated songwriter Jeannie Lurie as our #QueenoftheWeek 👑

Before she became the writer behind a collection of iconic Disney Channel hits, Lurie started songwriting as a hobby in high school. She described her school as artsy, noting the club she was a part of where students wrote musicals was where she worked on her very first show. Despite this experience, songwriting wasn’t initially on Lurie’s career agenda. She went to college to study English and Spanish, but after moving to Los Angeles following graduation, she found herself taking music classes and working on projects with friends, which ultimately opened the door to her future as a hitmaker. 

After working on The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz, she met with the head of music at Disney Channel to discuss upcoming projects in the works, one of which happened to be a script for “Hannah Montana.” Little did she know at the time, that would be the start of writing songs that would shape a generation and be just as loved and celebrated 20 years later. 

Along with her co-writers, Lurie is responsible for numerous “Hannah Montana” hits including, “Rockstar,” “This is the Life,” “True Friend,” “If We Were a Movie,” and more. In addition to the catchy melodies that became fan favorites, it was the relatable lyrics that stuck with young viewers. Lurie has spoken about how important it was to truly know the character and the world of “Hannah Montana” to ensure the songs felt authentic to what she would feel and say. It’s this care and attention that gave the songs their heart and made them the iconic tunes still loved today. 

Lurie’s career writing hits didn’t end there. Since then, she’s worked on “Good Luck Charlie,” Teen Beach Movie, “Shake it Up,” “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” and more.
