Twice a year, nature performs a geometric miracle in the heart of Monument Valley. Look at the first slide - that isn't just any shadow...
This is the Mitten Shadow. It happens at the end of March and mid-September. For just a few days, the West Mitten Butte casts a perfect silhouette onto the East Mitten Butte. This cosmic alignment lasts only a couple of minutes at sunset.
Imagine standing in the absolute silence of the desert, breathing the crisp air, and witnessing a fleeting, ancient phenomenon. It's a masterclass in celestial geometry, where giant rock formations "shake hands" through light and shadow. To help you visualize the perfect geometry, check out the final slide - I created a double exposure that shows exactly how these two icons lock together.
