Have you ever looked at a sunset or a forest and thought a color was “off”? Probably never. Nature is the ultimate master. Everything is always in perfect, effortless harmony.

But the second we sit down to edit a photo or design a layout, that certainty disappears. We start guessing the colors. We move sliders back and forth, but something still feels “noisy.” Even a world-class shot can lose its mark if the color relationships aren’t right.

In my 10 years as a travel photographer and mentoring thousands of students, this is the #1 thing I see people struggle with. During post-processing sessions, the question is almost always the same:

How do I make these colors work together?
Why does something feel off even when the composition is great?

While we call it the “art of seeing,” there is a real science behind it. You can actually train your brain to understand the relationship between colors. Once your brain gets the “code,” your eyes start seeing the harmony everywhere. My belief is that the focus should be on training the eye to see rather than delving too deeply into technicalities.

I’ve curated these slides to help you rewire your observation and understand how these combinations actually work.
