Lost in Time: The Hanuman Temple of Hampi ✨

Nestled within the grand Virupaksha Temple complex, this ancient Hanuman shrine stands frozen in time—its doors forever closed to visitors. Unlike the famous Anjaneya Hill temple, this lesser-known gem remains shrouded in mystery. Even though it’s a popular photography spot. No one knows exactly when it was built, but it likely dates back to the Vijayanagara Empire (14th–16th century) or even earlier.

Why Hanuman Ji here? Hampi is believed to be Kishkindha, the legendary monkey kingdom from the Ramayana. With Lord Virupaksha (Shiva) being Hanuman’s divine source, this shrine was likely a sacred stop for warriors and kings seeking strength and protection.

Today, you can’t step inside, but just standing before it at sunset, as the ancient stones glow in golden light, you can feel the echoes of devotion from centuries past.
