We’re honored to welcome Virgil Ortiz (b. 1969) — a celebrated Pueblo artist from Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico, known for his groundbreaking work across pottery, fashion, film, and design.

“Clay is the core of all my creations,” Ortiz says. “My work centers on preserving traditional Cochiti culture and art forms. Pueblo communities are very much alive—full of strength, persistence, brilliance, and thriving energy.”

🌀 Pueblo Revolt 1680/2180
In this talk, Ortiz reimagines the traditional Cochiti pottery narrative through a futuristic lens. Blending the historic 1680 Pueblo Revolt with science fiction and apocalyptic storytelling, he transports us from the past to the year 2180, where tradition and innovation collide in a bold vision of resistance and survival.
