As someone who has been in the photography industry for a while now, I am always asked by other photographers why clients back out the moment they send their pricing.

Is it because they’re too expensive? Should they mention that they provide discounts to special clients?

No. Because it’s not your pricing that’s the problem, it’s THE WAY you’re delivering that pricing that might be pushing them away.

Here are some common mistakes I see photographers making:

👉 Sending it via email
You’re probably thinking that this isn’t a big deal at all, but it makes a difference in how your brand is perceived. Instead of sending pricing typed out in an email, send them a pricing guide instead! It will send the message that you’re professional, serious about your business, and clearly explain your value and next steps.

👉 Not providing or showing the value of your services before sending the pricing
If someone asks you for your pricing, and you just send over the list without any additional messages, you’re making it sound like you don’t care. What you need to do instead is to share additional information like FAQs, add-ons etc.

👉 Sending it AFTER the consultation call
Most photographers assume that the best way to show your pricing is to do it after the initial call just to ‘make sure they really want to book you’. But this isn’t the best practice. Send pricing in the initial inquiry email. Get them all the info and value of your services right away so they know exactly what to expect.

👉 Not presenting it professionally
When someone asks for your pricing, don’t just send them a typed message with your pricing. The way you present it matters. Not only will it be easy for them to understand, but it will show your professionalism as well.
