⚔️ Battle of Austerlitz — French Artillery | 1805

What you’re seeing:

French guns firing from frost-covered heights near the village of Pratzen in Moravia (modern Czech Republic). Morning of Dec 2, 1805: cold air, low mist in the valleys. This scene shows only the ignition phase of firing (not the full loading or aiming sequence) to focus on visual realism.

Where is Austerlitz?
Austerlitz (now Slavkov u Brna) lies in southern Moravia, about 20 km (≈12 mi) east of Brno in today’s Czech Republic.

Why was Napoleon fighting in Central Europe?

Britain, Austria, Russia, Sweden, and Naples formed the Third Coalition (an alliance to contain Napoleonic France).

They sought to limit France’s growing power after Napoleon redrew borders across Europe, installed allied rulers, and disrupted the old monarchies that had dominated since the 18th century. His victories in Italy and his planned invasion of Britain convinced Europe’s monarchs that his ambition threatened the entire balance of power.

Why here?
Napoleon deliberately lured the Austro-Russian army off the Pratzen Heights into foggy low ground, pretending weakness. When the Allies descended, French artillery and infantry struck their exposed center.

What happened?
At sunrise, French forces surged up the plateau, shattered the Allied line, and forced a retreat. Thousands were captured, and the coalition collapsed.

What did it mean for Europe?
Austerlitz—“the Battle of the Three Emperors”—was Napoleon’s greatest triumph. It ended the Third Coalition, led to the Treaty of Pressburg, and confirmed France as Europe’s dominant power. Austria exited the war, and the Holy Roman Empire soon dissolved.
