⚔️ 🔥 Napoleon vs. Russia | 1812  

What you’re seeing:
A French 12-pounder fires across the misty fields near Borodino, about 75 miles west of Moscow. The recoil, smoke bloom, and echo show Napoleonic artillery in action.

Discrepancies (for transparency):
•The gun crew should stand off the wheels and trail, to the sides of the cannon, not behind the recoil path.
•The barrel shifts slightly out of line with the wooden carriage during firing, but in reality both would recoil together as one unit.
•The recoil slide appears slightly short for a full 12-pounder on firm ground, though mud can shorten travel.
•The forward shock puff at the muzzle could be stronger for full realism.
•No wall impact in this one yet — still perfecting debris realism for upcoming videos.

What was Borodino and who fought?
September 7, 1812. Napoleon’s Grande Armée against the Russian Imperial Army. Roughly 130,000 French and allies versus 120,000 Russians.

Why was it the bloodiest single day?
Two huge armies fought on a very narrow front.
They attacked each other head-on, again and again, into strong earthworks.
Almost no flanking or pullbacks to reduce losses.
Result: over 70,000 casualties in one day.

Implications:
After Borodino, the Russians withdrew in good order to Tarutino (about 75 miles southwest of Moscow) to regroup and harass French supply lines. Napoleon entered Moscow on September 14 and left on October 19. Much of Moscow was built of wood, and fires destroyed about two thirds of the city, leaving little shelter or supplies.

Tsar Alexander I refused to negotiate. With winter approaching and logistics broken, Napoleon retreated west toward Smolensk.

Relation to "War and Peace":
Tolstoy writes that battles are not decided by a commander’s plans alone but by the endurance and moral strength of ordinary soldiers, plus the chaos and chance of combat.
