If you’ve got ADHD and struggle with staying on top of meals, give this a save.

This 30-minute high-protein New Orleans gumbo is perfect for busy weeks, prepping 3–4 meals, or feeding the whole family without the overwhelm.

There’s no magic wand for impulsive eating or forgetting to eat with ADHD but there are habits that make it so much easier. Here are my top tips for supporting gut health, mood and nutrition with ADHD:

1️⃣ Gamify your gut health
Challenge yourself: how many plant points can you get in a day? Fruit, veg, spices, nuts, seeds, they all count.
Gut expert Tim Spector recommends 30 different plant points a week, which massively supports gut diversity (and in turn, mood, focus and energy).

2️⃣ Romanticise mealtimes
Make eating feel like a moment, not a chore.
Light a candle, use your favourite bowl, put on a cosy playlist, or sit somewhere you actually enjoy. With family, a partner, or totally solo make it feel inviting, so you don’t accidentally skip meals.

3️⃣ Create novelty around cooking
ADHD brains thrive on newness.
Try fun recipes, nostalgic meals you’ve not had in years, themed dishes, or seasonal flavours. Novelty = motivation.

4️⃣ Get creative
Use inspo from online or your brilliant ADHD brain and build something magical.
Bonus: post your creation for extra dopamine it works.

5️⃣ Add seeds + nuts for an easy gut boost
Most seeds are basically tasteless, so sprinkle mixed seeds or chopped nuts over your meals.
Even adding a tsp of cacao or a date into your shake is a quick win for gut health and fibre.

Building ADHD-friendly nutrition habits isn’t about perfection it’s about tiny supports that make everyday life easier. And meals like this gumbo genuinely help you stay nourished, energised and focused.

- Do you do any of these already? Which would you try?

🫶🏼 Save this for your next busy week.
