In 2023, we did Star Gazing at Thar , a brief stargazing travel campaign across villages bordering the majestic Thar Desert - all drive through off-road in a jeep! Days were all about golden dunes, endless horizons, and the quiet resilience of desert life. Nights? Absolutely unreal. Out there, under that vast sky, you truly understand how small (and lucky) you are. We stayed in remote villages near the border, soaking in the warmth of local communities and the raw beauty of the land. Thar is 18th-largest desert in the world and the 9th-largest subtropical desert. About 85% of the desert lies in India, primarily in Rajasthan, with the remaining portion extending into Pakistan’s Sindh and Punjab provinces. The Thar covers roughly 200,000 square kilometers (77,000 sq mi). Huge gratitude to the Border Security Force for granting the required permissions and ensuring a smooth and safe experience in such a sensitive zone. The desert isn’t empty — it’s alive.
