2.Your home becomes filled with unique one-offs
3.It's financially sensible
4.Old furniture is usually very well made
5.The local salvage yard is like visiting Aladdin's cave! 

We went to the salvage yard for a recent project and picked up some restored four-column radiators, and a beautiful ceiling rose.
