I got a quick shot of this yesterday. Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters, an architectural marvel that has stood at the crossroads of our city’s history since 1893. Designed by Frederick William Stevens, it’s a blend of Gothic Revival and Indo-Saracenic styles, a nod to both colonial ambition and Indian artistry.

But look closer. Above the grand arch, the emblem bears the Sanskrit words “Yato Dharmastato Jaya” - “Where there is righteousness, there shall be victory.” It’s not just a motto for governance, but a philosophy that reminds us of the ideals cities aspire to, even in the face of chaos and change.

And atop it all, the Guardian Angel of Progress stands with open wings, watching over a city that has grown from seven islands into a thriving, restless, resilient metropolis.
