7 Protein Sources I Skip at 50

👉 Because I Actually Want to Build 💪Muscle, Not Bloat 🐳

Let’s be real ….not all protein is created equal.

Just because it has “protein” on the label doesn’t mean it’s helping you get lean, strong, and shredded.

Especially after 40, when your hormones and metabolism are playing hard to get

👉 Here are 7 so-called “protein” foods I don’t mess with … and what I eat instead..👇

1. Cheap protein bars
They’re candy bars with a gym membership.

I eat: Homemade Greek yogurt bowls or clean bars with <5 ingredients.

2. Flavored yogurts with added protein
Tons of sugar, barely any actual protein.

I eat: Plain Greek yogurt + collagen or berries + cinnamon. fage

3. Fried meats (yes, even chicken)
Inflammation station.
It’s not fuel, it’s fried regret.

I eat: Grilled, baked, or air-fried lean meats with seasoning … not batter.

4. Breaded frozen “protein nuggets”
They’re nostalgic, not nutritious.

I eat: Ground turkey or shredded chicken in lettuce wraps or bowls.

5. Shady protein powders
If it tastes like a science experiment and lists “natural flavors” as the first ingredient? Pass.

I use: Clean whey isolate or plant protein with full amino profiles. 1stphorm

6. Store-bought “protein” cookies & brownies
Dessert in disguise. You’re better off eating a spoon of peanut butter.

I eat: High-protein shakes made with yogurt, cocoa, and PBfit.

7. Ultra-processed vegan meats
Fake food. Fake gains.

I eat: Real tofu, tempeh, lentils, and chickpeas — whole plant proteins that actually work.

🔍 So how do you know if something is really a high-protein food?

💋 Use my KISS hack

1️⃣ Take the grams of protein per serving and add a zero to it.
2️⃣ Compare that number to the total calories per serving.

📌 Example
	•	20g protein → add a zero = 200
	•	If the food has 150 calories → 200 > 150 = High-protein WIN ✅
	•	If the food has 250+ calories → It’s likely packed with fat or sugar = BYE 🚫

3️⃣ If your protein + ZERO is greater than or equal to the calories, it’s legit! ✅
