You never know what someone’s carrying in life.

One kind gesture could change their entire week.

We spend 40+ hours a week with our colleagues - yet we often judge them by what’s on the surface:

➡️ The scattered manager might’ve been up all night with a sick child.
➡️ The unreliable teammate could be caring for a parent in chemo.
➡️ The sick colleague may be quietly going through a divorce.

Still, we expect everyone to perform at 100% all the time.

What if we looked deeper?

Here are five practical ways to bring more kindness to work:

1️⃣ Notice the patterns
When someone’s tone shifts in emails or they disengage in meetings, don’t assume they don’t care. Try: “Want to grab a coffee?”

2️⃣ Look for small signals
If someone who’s normally punctual starts arriving late or missing deadlines, check in privately. Say: “No pressure, but I’m here if you need anything”.

3️⃣ Listen between the words
If someone hints they’re having a tough time, don’t ignore it. Try: “That sounds hard. What would help right now?”

4️⃣ Watch for overload
Notice who’s online late every night or taking on more than they can handle. Step in with: “Let me take something off your plate”.

5️⃣ Remember the quiet ones
Some people will never complain. They’ll always say “I’m fine.” Make time to connect: “Let’s catch up properly next week.”
