❓Is it disrespect or just a cultural difference?

Yesterday on LinkedIn, we talked about subtle signs of disrespect.

I want to bring one example here that I’ve been personally navigating:

📌 When it comes to respect, cultural differences really matter.

For example:
In my Turkish family, saying “we’ll come by later in the afternoon” is completely normal. Just a soft plan. Totally acceptable.

But with my German family?
That would be a huge no-go.
Time = commitment. If you say 15:00, you better mean 15:00.

After 15 years in Germany, I’ve definitely been “Germanized” and I now find it really hard when people can’t stick to time anymore.

Because for me, time and energy are the biggest things we have.

When I commit to a time with people I love, I want to be fully present.

And knowing when helps me plan my day and protect that energy.

What makes it harder:
In Turkish culture, it’s often not okay to say it bothers you you’re expected to tolerate it.
But in Germany, it’s completely okay to call it out and set a boundary.

So I wonder…

Is it about respect?
Or just different expectations?

Curious how you interpret this in your culture.
Do you take things like that as a sign of respect or not really? 👇
