Comments about weight leave a mark.

Even when they come from a good place.

At work, with family, in social settings —> it’s often the first thing we hear:

↳ “You put on weight. What’s going on?”
↳ “You should eat more. You’re so thin!”
↳ “I need to lose fat like you.”

Here’s why weight talk can do more harm than good:

1️⃣ You don’t know their story.
↳ Hormones, illness, and even grief could be the reason.

2️⃣ It’s uncomfortable.
↳ Comments can create shame and insecurity.

3️⃣ Thin doesn’t mean healthy.
↳ Someone can be slim and struggling or in a bigger body and thriving.

4️⃣ It promises harmful health standards.
↳ Social media and diet culture push the idea that smaller is better.

5️⃣ It can damage relationships.
↳ Casual remarks can hurt feelings and create distance.

6️⃣ It’s not the full picture.
↳ Health is also about strength, energy, and fulfillment.

How to shift the conversation:👇🏼

✅ Focus on their energy and overall well-being.
↳ “You seem really happy lately—what’s working for you?”

✅ Highlight their strengths and efforts.
↳ “Love how you’re so consistent with your workouts—how do you stay motivated?”

✅ Ask about something meaningful to them.
↳ “What’s been exciting in your life lately?”

Remember:
The way we talk about weight shapes self-worth.
Make sure it’s done with kindness.

P.S. What’s a question you’d rather be asked instead?
