Pain is a process - it is beyond our control when it presents but one can do their best and choose how to respond, adapting expectations, setting intentions for positive change whilst creating a strategy for management. 

It is not a perfect science due to the subjective psychological aspect but creating a response shifts perspective and can make things more manageable.
