The advice to “eat small meals every 2-3 hours” might be the very thing keeping you metabolically stuck.

I’ve seen women train hard, cut calories, lose 30 lbs and STILL come to me with elevated A1C levels and poor lipid panels.

Because weight loss and metabolic health are NOT the same thing.

Here’s what’s actually happening:

1️⃣ Constant Insulin Spikes
Every single time you eat, your pancreas releases insulin. Six meals = six spikes. Increased inflammation.

2️⃣ You Never Enter Fat-Burning Mode
Research shows your body can only access stored fat when insulin drops low enough. Eating every 2-3 hours? Insulin stays elevated all day. When you’re over 40 and already struggling with insulin resistance, you need periods of fasting to increase insulin sensitivity.

3️⃣ The Meals Are Missing Adequate Fat
This bodybuilding approach typically cuts fat to keep calories low. But fat is what slows glucose absorption AND what your body needs to make hormones. Low fat = blood sugar spikes + hormonal chaos.

4️⃣ The Meals Are Missing Fiber
Small frequent meals rarely include enough fiber. Fiber is your other blood sugar stabilizer. Without it, glucose hits your bloodstream fast and hard.

5️⃣ It’s a Double Whammy
You’re spiking insulin 6x a day AND eating meals that have nothing in them to stabilize your blood sugar. That’s not a metabolism boost…that’s metabolic chaos.

After 40, with declining estrogen, increased stress and natural muscle loss, you’re already more insulin resistant. This approach overwhelms a system that’s already working harder.

The fix isn’t more meals or more restriction.

It’s fewer, balanced meals with adequate protein, healthy fats, and fiber and TIME between meals for insulin to drop.

You’re not broken. You just need a plan that prioritizes metabolic health, not just the scale.

But most trainers aren’t 49-year-old women with 20+ years experience with an insulin centric perspective for perimenopausal & menopausal clients.
