Your vision isn’t for everyone. 

As a business owner, you lead by creating clarity for your mission, and setting the bar high so you can stretch your people. You define what it means to jump on the bus, but not everyone will share the same stop.

I once read a book by Marshal Goldsmith called “What got you here, won’t get you there” and the title applies not just to people for your business but also your business for your people. Transitions are a normal and healthy part of growth and some of your people will desire an alternative future to the one you’re trying to create. 

No matter how hard you try to convince people that “this is the way”, people in your business might realise they’re called for something else. And as much as it hurts to see people you care for go, it’s a necessary ending for the start of something special. 

Your leadership will lose people - That’s a given. And if you you’ve done a great job of providing clarity of that vision, you give your people permission to accept it and move forward with you, or respectfully decline it to move forward on something else. 

Every good book has pivotal chapters. I’m grateful we’ve been blessed to share a chapter with some of the greatest admin staff who are no longer with us today.

I would hate for our organisation to be the reason someone sacrifices their future because we want them to stay or stay the same. Instead, we’ve pre-decided to always celebrate those who’ve been part of the Pro-Form family and doing our best to leave them in a better place than where they began.
