During last night’s game, Rhys Hoskins was thrown out at the plate on a play that quickly stood out—not because of a great defensive throw, but because of how unnecessary the send looked. Trying to score from third on a shallow ball to the outfield, he broke for home despite the play developing right in front of the fielder.

What made it worse is that the throw itself wasn’t anything special—more of a routine, controlled toss than a powerful one—yet Hoskins was still out by a wide margin. It turned into an easy out at the plate, highlighting just how poor the decision to send him was.
