MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT TIME FOLKS! One day before the ice storm in the 2nd week of January, our beautiful old copper brewhouse (shown here in 2015) suddenly gave up the ghost mid-brew (due to completely ruptured steam jackets, which heat the kettle), a day after a perfect Postman batch, halting new onsite production (the ice was the icing on that cake). As these particular pipes are inaccessibly welded into place behind thick walls of stainless steel & copper, they cannot be fixed by mortals. Defcon-4 for sure! But thanks to our wonderful insurance co., we now have a shiny NEW BREWHOUSE from Italy getting finishing touches, set for installation here sometime around the first week of June. It’s a very special system we can’t wait to fire up. WHAT IT ALL MEANS: While a massive emergency for us, the recovery is well afoot and you won’t notice too much of a change. We do still have a good bit of inventory, and are pulling some back from distro to keep stocked, and we’re also still blending oak-aged beers for Cellar Society (and members, watch for news on the awesome final 2023 release, packaged this week). Our selection and hours may be reduced somewhat as we navigate it all and also do some more fun things like attend the Oregon Beer Awards. In the meantime, we are collaborating with favorite area breweries, renovating in the cellar, and getting ready for a busy summer. Silver linings! I’ll be posting some stories on IG during the transformation, which comes 10 years into the project, with the big wooden doors open since 2016. So cheers and thanks for all your thirsty support of the hundreds of batches that were crafted on that old copper duchesse. For all its quirks, it was the best setup we could have started on, just as it had been for our great neighbors down at Heater Allen. It would be impossible to overstate the excitement I felt when we first acquired that beauty, built the floor drains and cellar by hand, and launched it all with so much help from great friends, fam, staff, & beer fans near and far. We will miss the system and plan to send her off with Felicitation #8 around June/July, so stay tuned! #brewedinabarn #believeinsaison #dellatoffola #grateful
