I don’t like to talk about the fact that my daughter has seizures because it makes me sad. These moments were such a light when she was feeling so stuck in a hospital bed.

As far as seizures go, I do acknowledge her epilepsy because..

1. What is seen, can be supported and awareness can replace her fear with knowledge.
2. Seizures mean that her body is communicating, not technically failing.
3. Resilience grows in truth, not denial — her story, deserves honesty, not shame.
4. It teaches her that she’s believed and one day she’ll remember how I responded.
5. It models self advocacy early. Resilience grows in truth.

I’ve spent years training scent work dogs for specific jobs, service dogs for a handler with disabilities and therapy dogs to visit hospital rooms, schools, community centers, disasters —
and somehow, I was never the one being visited by a therapy dog.

Today, my daughter was.

Watching a therapy dog walk into her room felt like everything coming full circle.

Healing doesn’t always look like medicine. Sometimes it has four legs, warm eyes, and reminds you that you’re not alone. 🐾🤍
