teaching my dog what love is and what it looks like — I get questions about my “I love you” button and to put it simply:

It’s not necessary to teach a dog what the words “I love you” mean. He communicates this in his language everyday. 

I’ve just made it my personal goal for him to connect the scent of oxytocin paired with affection to the words “I love you”. I say it to him when I think deeply about much he means to me and it occurred to me that maybe it would benefit him for me to sharpen our communication around that phrase. 

I know one day he will be the hardest loss I have ever faced but oh what a gift is has been to love him. I will get to remember us just as this and one day after we are both gone from here, I know he will find me again.
