Did you know that poor sleep can be a sign of poor gut health?

If you are eating too late, digestion can get in the way of melatonin production and this will disrupt your sleep as a consequence.

It is true that the gut plays a role in the production of melatonin and that consuming a majority of calories earlier in the day may be more optimal for sleep. Melatonin is a hormone that is produced by the pineal gland in the brain, but it can also be produced in small amounts by cells in the gut. The production of melatonin in the gut is influenced by factors such as the timing and amount of food intake and the presence of certain types of bacteria in the gut microbiome.

It is also true that the circadian system, which helps regulate the body’s internal clock and various physiological processes, plays a role in the digestion of food. The gut has its own internal clock, which can be influenced by factors such as the timing of food intake and exposure to light. This can affect the production of digestive enzymes and the motility of the gut, which can influence the efficiency of digestion.

Additionally, studies have shown that people with healthy gut microbiomes tend to have better sleep quality and are less likely to experience sleep problems.

What time of the day do you typically have your last meal? notice any sleep changes? share your experience in the comments below!
