Can we foget humanity? Yes! A billion migrants are usually left out from our mainstream healthcare solutions.

Reflections on the #HLTH conference where I had the great pleasure of sharing a panel with the incredible Professor Sam Shah and Nadia Kadhim CEO of Naq.

1. If we are still talking about refugees and migrants ('migrants' collectively) as 'them' rather than us, our families, friends, and colleagues. This shows the stigma, their dehumanisation, and politicisation.

2. Refugees and migrants make up more than a billion people globally. Yes, they are very distinct how they leave their countries of origin, but they also have several aspects of their journeys in common.

3. They don't move in order to take over our jobs or overwhelm our healthcare systems. They move with their aspirations, innovations, and contributions.

I came to the UK as a 15 year old refugee from Afghanistan. But I also brought with me a dream - to become a doctor and give back to my host country and to humanity regardless of their backgrounds.

4. Migrants contribute largely to our workforce and are also a big percentage of consumers in every aspect of our society.

5. They should be seen as investment rather than a burden.

6. Understanding migration and cultures means understanding how the global system works. This can help (tech) companies and organisations benefit from acquiring the ability to localise solutions. Without building trust and a deeper understanding, companies can't just scale internationally and compete with local peers.

Above are some highlights from our panel discussion.

With sincere thanks to those who made it to our talk. And, thank you for speaking with us afterwards and for sharing our messages.

Very grateful to HLTH Inc. HLTH Europe and their magnificent team for welcoming and hosting us. Really looking forward to next year.

HLTH Europe was a wonderful opportunity to meet friends and make new connections. I will post separately about this.
