Here are 5 signs that you maybe confusing safety with control
1) You can’t relax until everything is certain and completed.
You have a persistent urge to finish tasks, answer messages, recheck details, re-read and reconfirm just to be sure. “If I finish this, I’ll be able to relax.” But that relaxation never happens because there is always something to do. And that uncertainty keeps you restless, tense and on edge.

2) Small unpredictability triggers an over reaction
Any sudden changes in plans irritate you or cause you to shut down. You do not handle last minute changes, someone being late or an unexpected email well. You like sticking to your tight schedules. Your routines feel rigid to others and you try your best to get others to follow you as well.

3) You overthink everything.
You analyse feelings instead of feeling them: replay conversations, predict outcomes, research endlessly, make pros/cons lists to exhaustion. You always feel the need to get more information before deciding. This overthinking gives you a temporary sense of calm but the worry always returns. What you don’t know is that the overthinking reinforces the worry cycle.

4) You manage other people’s emotions to feel okay
You are people pleaser, over explainer and apologise quicky. You are the person who tries to fix the tension in a room. And you are always monitoring everyone’s micro signals, their tone, pauses and facial expressions so that you can monitor their emotions. You seek reassurance. “Are we okay?” “Are you upset?” Reassurance seeking is a common safety behaviour for people with anxiety.

5) You confuse “being busy” with being stable (and stillness feels unsafe to you)
You feel okay when you’re being productive, but when you rest you feel anxious. Your body sensations get louder and your emotions surface. To deal with this you numb yourself through scrolling, constant podcasts, w work overflow. You believe that “I should be doing something.” This can backfire overtime, you might end up burning out.
