A father wound is a pattern that forms when a person’s father is controlling, shaming, rejecting, emotionally unavailable or absent. This tells the child that it is not safe to be me.

A man with a father wound is a boy who learns to project strength and performs a persona of capability, self-control and independence.
Here are 5 signs of Man carrying a father wound.

•	Identity built around Status: Their work, salary, external appearance and romantic relationships are a key part of their identity. Being alone is uncomfortable. The idea of rest induces guilt.

•	Emotional Suppression: Feelings are seen as a sign of weakness. “Don’t be weak. Don’t feel. Perform.” They have difficulty naming and expressing their feelings. Vulnerability does not come easily to them and often turns into anger.

•	Authority Issues: Authority feels threatening. “People with power will either shame me or control me.” So when confronted with authority they either become submissive and seek approval or completely rebel.

•	Emotionally Unavailable in relationships: They struggle to let their partners see their vulnerability. They may even sabotage their relationships. This is because they believe that “If someone really sees me, they’ll reject me.”

•	Harsh inner critic: Their internal voice sounds like “you’re not enough” or “do more”. This is why they simply cannot enjoy their achievements and never feel settled in life. There’s always more to do and achieve.

What healing often involves (briefly):
• Building inner safety that isn’t based on performance
• Emotional literacy + nervous system regulation
• Working with the internalized father voice
• Secure male mentorship/brotherhood
• Practicing receiving, not only doing

If this seems like a man you know, share this with them. They may be in denial of what they are struggling with.
