1. As an adult, you may feel like a "chameleon," constantly shifting your opinions and personality to match the people you are with. You may struggle to answer simple questions like "What do you want?" or "What do you enjoy?" because your "True Self" was suppressed in favor of a "False Self" designed to please the mother.

2. You feel that your value as a human being is tied strictly to your achievements. If you aren't "the best" or "perfect," you feel worthless. This manifests as chronic perfectionism or, conversely, "self-sabotage" because the pressure to be an extraordinary reflection of the mother is too heavy to bear.

3. You are an expert at "reading the room." You can detect a slight shift in someone's tone or facial expression and immediately feel the need to "fix" it or apologize, even if you did nothing wrong. You were conditioned to manage your mother’s emotions to avoid her "narcissistic rage" or withdrawal of love.
