In India, psychologist-client confidentiality is governed primarily by the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 and the POCSO Act, 2012. It is not absolute and must be breached in the following scenarios:

 * Mandatory Reporting (POCSO): You are legally obligated to report any knowledge or apprehension of child sexual abuse to the police. Failure to do so is a criminal offense.

 * Imminent Threat: Under MHCA Section 23, you may release information to prevent a threat to life, whether it is the client’s own life (suicide/self-harm) or a threat of violence against a specific third party.

 * Legal Compulsion: You must comply if a competent court orders the release of records or testimony.

 * Collaborative Care: Information can be shared with other health professionals if essential for the client's treatment or public safety.
