Your wedding vows are the heart of your ceremony and possibly the most meaningful promises you'll ever make. But here's the thing: there are NO rules about what they should include!

One of my favourite parts of being a celebrant is helping couples discover what they truly want to say to each other. Sometimes it's poetic, sometimes it's practical, sometimes it even includes a joke about who does the dishes. 

The most beautiful vows I've heard were the ones that felt authentic and true to the couple standing before me.

I often ask couples to reflect on this powerful question: "What would you want your partner to know with absolute certainty? What truths should never go unsaid?" It's about creating space for that deep, vulnerable honesty that we sometimes hold back in everyday life.
When we approach vows from this place of openness, something magical happens. The words become more than just promises. They become a testament to what truly matters in your relationship.

So throw out the rulebook. Include your quirks, your inside jokes, your real promises, your literary references, or whatever else makes your relationship special. But don't be afraid to speak from that vulnerable, honest place too.
