## Caption

Time zones are based on Earth’s rotation and its division into 360 degrees of longitude. Since Earth rotates once every 24 hours, each 15 degrees represents roughly one hour difference. The reference point is Greenwich Mean Time at 0 degrees longitude. However, real time zones are adjusted for political and practical reasons, so they bend around borders instead of following perfect lines. This is why some countries share one time while others split into many.
