We’ve all heard this saying… ⤵️

“If you’ve met one autistic person, you’ve met one autistic person.”

And my two kids prove it every single day.

My son Rory is autistic, and he likes the way his brain works.

He sees his autism as a strength and wouldn’t change a thing about it.

But his sister Violet? Her experience couldn’t be more different.

She’s also autistic and for her, daily life is a constant uphill climb.

She struggles in ways that cause her real pain.

Autism isn’t just a difference for her; it’s something that can make her world feel overwhelming, exhausting, and lonely.

And she desperately wants treatments that could make life a lot easier.

Same diagnosis. Two kids. Two completely different realities.

Both are valid. Both deserve compassion, understanding, and support.

I’m deeply grateful for Rory’s confidence and perspective, and just as grateful for Violet’s honesty and strength. Together, they’re a powerful reminder of something we all need to hear:

➡️ Every autistic person experiences the world differently.
➡️ The support they want (or can’t express) might look nothing alike.

And one final note: The truth we don’t talk about enough is that some autistic people CAN'T share their experience or advocate for themselves, and their parents have to be their voice.

That doesn’t make those parents the enemy.

It makes them fierce, loving advocates trying to make life better for their child.

Every story matters, every voice deserves to be heard...

Including the parents who speak up when their child cannot.

Sometimes, the most loving thing we can do is stop assuming we know best and listen. 🫶
