So what even is an IEE?!

Simply put, it's an evaluation of your child's abilities and educational needs completed by a professional who is NOT employed by the school district that your child attends.

So why might you request one? 👇

➡️ You disagree with the school's evaluation:

If you believe the school's evaluation did not accurately reflect their abilities in any specific area (think: speech, OT, PT, behavior, academics, etc.), you might consider requesting an IEE.

This also applies if the school does not find evidence of a disability, but you think your child has one.

➡️ Discrepancy in recommendations:

If the recommendations from the school seem inadequate or insufficient, you can request an IEE to get alternative recommendations for interventions and support from an independent evaluator.

➡️ Need for a more comprehensive evaluation:

If you feel the school's evaluation overlooked important areas, you may want to request an IEE to ensure a more thorough assessment of your child's needs.

➡️ Unbiased opinion:

Since an IEE is conducted by someone outside of the school district, it provides an objective, unbiased evaluation, which can be helpful if you feel the school is not fully considering your child's needs.

Don't forget to share this with someone who might need to hear about an IEE and comment any questions you have below👇
