I’ve been vacationing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for over a decade, but this summer I finally visited Mackinac Island for the first time. It’s charming, beautiful, and full of history—so I decided to share 20 fun facts about this magical place!

1.	🚫🚗 No cars allowed since 1898—just bikes & horses!
	2.	🍫 It’s the Fudge Capital of the World.
	3.	🏰 Fort Mackinac was built in 1780 during the Revolution.
	4.	🌊 The island is only 4 square miles but gets a million visitors a year.
	5.	🏨 The Grand Hotel has the world’s longest front porch—660 feet!
	6.	🌲 It was once America’s 2nd National Park (after Yellowstone).
	7.	🌸 Home to America’s oldest Lilac Festival.
	8.	👻 Known for ghost stories & haunted legends.
	9.	🪨 Arch Rock rises 146 feet over Lake Huron.
	10.	🎬 The movie “Somewhere in Time” was filmed here.
	11.	🐴 Over 500 horses live here every summer.
	12.	⛴️ Only way here is by ferry or plane—no bridge connects the island.
	13.	🌳 80% of the island is protected state park land.
	14.	🐿️ Red squirrels have been seen swimming between islands.
	15.	🧊 In winter, locals mark an ice road with Christmas trees.
