Reflection in architecture is transforming how we experience space . Argentine artist Leandro Erlich is captivating visitors with his mind-bending optical illusion. A life-size replica of a Shikumen terraced house is laid flat on the ground, while a giant mirror, suspended above at a 45-degree angle, reflects the façade as if it’s standing upright. What happens next? The magic begins!

Crawl along the façade, and the mirror makes you appear to scale the wall like Spider-Man. Stand still, and you’ll defy gravity, seemingly protruding from the wall. It’s a surreal, gravity-defying experience that blurs the lines between reality and illusion.

Leandro Erlich, who comes from an architectural background, is known for transforming familiar spaces into dreamlike landscapes. His work is inspired by cinematic legends like Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick, playing with perception and space in unexpected ways.

This installation is part of his Reflective Optical Illusion House series, with past works in London and Paris. And in Shanghai, Erlich brought a local twist, using the iconic Shikumen house—a blend of European and Chinese architectural influences—as the canvas for this unforgettable experience.
