Of COURSE joining committees to put on your application for CRNA school is something many people do. But the real question, WHY are you doing it?

That’s the THING. Everyone joins committees. And people sort of forget why they are doing it (or they don’t know in the first place). They just heard “joining committees is good for your app”. But WHY. WHY are joining committees good for your app?

Because it shows that you have LEADERSHIP skills, you’re INVOLVED on your unit, and you are a driver for CHANGE.

So think about those three things. What are some other ways that you can develop leadership skills, showcase your involvement in your profession, and be a change agent? Because these are the things you want to develop and let shine. These are things we look for in applicants. Yes, joining committees is ONE way to try to accomplish that (but the reality is, just being a committee member sometimes really isn’t enough, most applicants are on multiple committees) but I encourage you to think of other ways that you can highlight these characteristics about yourself like:

✅ Being involved in your professional organizations (ANA, AACN)
✅ Developing and implementing a unit project
✅ Volunteering in a leadership position in your community

Ask yourself, what can you do to drive CHANGE?
