The 2026 GSMA GLOMO Awards in Barcelona have officially recognized the next frontier of African fintech. Safaricom and Huawei were honored with the "Best FinTech & Digital Commerce Innovation" award for their collaborative project, the Ziidi Wealth Platform. This recognition at MWC 2026 marks a significant milestone in the evolution of M-PESA from a mobile money transfer service into a sophisticated financial ecosystem.

Ziidi, which launched as a Money Market Fund (MMF) in 2025, has rapidly dismantled traditional barriers to investing in Kenya. By allowing users to invest as little as 100 Shillings ($0.77) with real-time liquidity and no transaction fees, the platform has successfully reached over 4.3 million users in a record timeframe. The platform’s infrastructure, powered by Huawei’s cloud-native digital architecture, ensures 99.999% reliability and seamless integration with the existing M-PESA app.

The award highlights a broader trend in African tech: the transition from "unbanked" to "invested." With the recent expansion into Ziidi Trader, which allows users to buy and sell shares on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) directly from their phones, Safaricom and Huawei are setting a global benchmark for how telecom infrastructure can drive national economic resilience and individual wealth creation.
