Elon Musk was born on June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa. He showed an early interest in computing and technology, developing his first software program at the age of 12. He moved to the United States to attend the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned degrees in physics and economics. Musk co-founded Zip2, an online city guide, which he sold for nearly $300 million. He then created  X. com, which later became PayPal and was acquired by eBay for $1.5 billion.
