En route to London, the Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner lifted off at 1:39 p.m. IST but lost thrust roughly 30 seconds later and plummeted into the hostel, triggering a massive blaze. Of the 242 onboard (230 passengers, 12 crew), only one passenger—seated in emergency exit row 11A—survived. Tragically, 241 onboard and at least 28 on the ground perished; many of the charred victims are being identified via DNA.
