The Heuer Seafarer and Mareograph trace their origins to Abercrombie & Fitch in New York, where Heuer developed one of the earliest chronograph wristwatches with a tide indication, based on John Alden Knight’s solunar theory. While the Seafarer was produced exclusively for Abercrombie, the present Mareograph, reference 2447 SF and dating to circa 1955, belongs to an extremely short production run made for select Heuer retailers worldwide.

Produced in very limited numbers, this example is further distinguished by its double signature, retailed by the esteemed Lucerne jeweler Gübelin. To date, it is the only known Mareograph to bear this retailer’s name.
