🎬: Nanny

Nanny (2022) is a psychological horror film by Nikyatu Jusu about Aisha (Anna Diop), a Senegalese immigrant working as a nanny for a wealthy New York City couple while saving to bring her son from Senegal to the U.S. The film blends the real-life struggles of an immigrant’s precarious “American Dream” with supernatural elements, as Aisha is haunted by unsettling visions and a growing sense of dread connected to her past and her new reality. It won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, becoming the first horror film to do so, and was praised for its visuals, atmosphere, and Diop’s performance, though some critics found the horror elements disjointed.
