I’ve heard versions of this POV many times over the years. Like “you’re just casually upside down, talking, looking around the room… while I’m over here trying to figure our where my feet even go.”

So this will probably come as a shocker: I didn’t set out to learn how to do this😅

I built this skill in my early days of teaching. I hustled HARD with a ridiculous number of classes and privates every day. Driving all over the city in my tiny Prius. Every class was 90 minutes and mattered to me (that last bit hasn’t changed).

At the end of each class, I would always build a bit of play. We’d spend time exploring an inversion or arm balance. I would break it down at every level: what it looks at the beginning, how it builds, and where it can go.

Because I was already talking the entire class, when it came to demoing… I just kept talking. I’d go upside down, crack a joke, look around and keep teaching. To me, it wasn’t special.

But everyone would comment on it all the time. Over time, and especially through trainings, I understood why. When you can see something while it’s being explained, it lands differently.

You’re not trying to translate words into a shape. You’re watching it happen in real time. And that’s really the point.

It’s not about being able to talk in a handstand. It’s about understanding what’s actually happening in the body - to teach it, feel it and eventually do it.

That’s what a yoga teacher training gives you. The ability to connect the dots in your body, your practice and in the way you understand what you’re doing.

So if you’ve ever watched something like this and thought “how do you even get there”, this is exactly the kind of work I do.

Comment TRAINING and I’ll send you the details
