While the James Beard Award nominations have long been known as the “Oscars of the food world,” becoming a semifinalist in January meant much more to Ian Robertson, executive chef at Oak Park. 

Robertson will learn Tuesday, March 31, if he will be named a finalist for the foundation's Best Chef Midwest award. Masao chefs Nick Hanke and Phil Shires are also semifinalists and The Contrary in Des Moines' East Village is a semifinalist for Best New Bar. 

It’s a nod of recognition for how Oak Park has become an advocate for farmers across Iowa and the way partnerships with those farmers influence the restaurant.
