Former New Jersey Assemblyman Alberto Coutinho was killed Sunday in a car crash in Newark, the Essex County Prosecutor and Newark Public Safety director said.

Aside from serving as assemblyman, Coutinho also served as board member for a number of departments for the City of Newark.
