Riverwood International Charter School Senior Ryan Hoppenfeld has committed to run Cross Country and Track for Kennesaw State University. He was recruited as a middle-distance (800 and 1600) and XC runner for the Owls, who compete in the ASUN Conference.

Hoppenfeld is a four-year, two-sport Varsity athlete, lettering in Cross Country and Track & Field. He served as team captain for Cross Country and Track in his junior and senior years.

Hoppenfeld was a Cross Country and Track state qualifier for three years at Riverwood, competing in the state sectional and state championship level for the Raiders in the 6A classification. He has garnered multiple top-10 finishes in cross country and track events in state competition for the Raiders.

Hoppenfeld has competed in triathlons since he was five years old and credits his early development to the 10 years he spent competing in triathlons with his Multi-Sport Explosion team prior to high school.

Hoppenfeld is an IB Certificate and Honor Roll student and plans to major in sports management. He chose KSU because it felt like a good fit and because of the reputation of the coaching staff for nurturing big improvements among their runners on the team. He is expected to be a top-7 starter on the roster, which appealed to his desire to continue racing next season.
