The government has shifted 16.68 lakh official email accounts to Zoho’s cloud platform. The total cost of this project has reached around ₹180 crore so far. This move was carried out by the National Informatics Centre (NIC).

Zoho was selected through a competitive bidding process on GeM. The aim is to create a secure and sovereign email system for the government. All data and ownership will remain fully under government control.

The cost per email account ranges between ₹170 to ₹300 per month. Storage provided varies from 30 GB to 100 GB per user. Payments depend on how many accounts are moved to the system.

As more departments join, the overall cost will increase further. Earlier, around 12.68 lakh accounts were shifted by December 2025. Now it has increased to 16.68 lakh, showing rapid expansion.

This step is part of India’s push to reduce reliance on global tech firms. It focuses on data security, privacy, and digital self-reliance. The system includes features like encryption and multi-factor authentication.
